Loans and grants

As part of initial training, if a student does not have the necessary resources, he or she can consult the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur and its vocational training centre to apply for loans and grants.

Support from Emploi-Québec for training activities

An agreement between the Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ) and Emploi-Québec provides the possibility for financial support during a full-time training activity.

Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria may receive financial aid in the form of an employment assistance allowance, maintenance of Employment Insurance or Employment Assistance benefits and, if applicable, reimbursement of childcare costs.

Candidates must meet with an agent at a Centre local d’emploi (CLE, local employment centre) at least 10 days before the training activity begins in order to confirm their eligibility. To find out the locations of the CLEs in Québec, visit the Emploi-Québec website or call 1 888 643-4721.

Incentive grant for apprentices

Since January 1, 2007, the federal government has offered a grant that aims to keep new apprentices in their trade to avoid dropping out. In the process, the CCQ confirms to the federal government an employee’s access to the grant according to established criteria. This $1,000 grant is taxable for the first two years of apprenticeship in the trade. It is payable for a lifetime maximum of $2,000. For more details, consult the Service Canada website.

Grant for completion of apprentice training

The federal government offers a grant to encourage Canadians to complete their training and apprenticeship in a Red Seal trade.

This taxable grant of $2,000 (payable once per lifetime) is for employees who have passed their qualification exam and obtained their journeyman competency certificate. For more details, consult the Service Canada website.

Employment Integration Program for Immigrants and Visible Minorities (PRIIME)

Emploi-Québec offers wage subsidies to facilitate job integration of immigrants under certain conditions.

Contrat d’intégration au travail for person with disabilities
