Eligibility

Eligibility

The examination is for people who are in one of the following situations:

  • Apprentices who have finished their apprenticeship
  • Apprentices who have completed 85% of their apprenticeship. If desired, apprentices can decide to complete their apprenticeship 100 % before registering for the exam
  • People who have practised a trade or specialty and acquired experience in hours worked and, if applicable, in training credits at least equal to the total duration of apprenticeship in the trade covered and for whom analysis of their file has demonstrated their experience through supporting documents
  • Apprentice eligible for the examination

Apprentices are informed by the Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ) that they are eligible for the provincial qualification examination in their trade when they have completed 85% of their apprenticeship.

If they wish to register for the examination before the end of their apprenticeship, they must:

    • Contact Customer Services at 1 888 842-8282 to determine the date and location of their examination. They must pay the $100 registration fee with a credit card

    OR

    • Write a letter to their regional office indicating their interest in registering. They must give their client number and attach a cheque or postal money order for $100 made out to the Commission de la construction du Québec. The date and location of their examination will be sent to them by mail.

If they do not wish to register for the examination before the end of their apprenticeship:

    • When they have completed their last apprenticeship period, the CCQ will send them a letter obliging them to register for the qualification examination within one month after their apprenticeship ends, or else their work permit will be suspended. A $100 fee must be paid to register for a qualification examination.

To view the hours recorded in the apprenticeship record book, consult the online services at sel.ccq.org

It is important to note that the registration fee for the examination is not refundable and that it is valid for a 12-month period from the date of payment. It is therefore the apprentice's responsibility to contact our Customer Services at most four (4) months BEFORE expiration of the validity of the payment so that he or she can take the examination within the set deadline. Otherwise, the registration fee will have to be paid again.
