Networking
Having a good network is one of the keys to successful integration into the construction industry.
Here are some things that women can consider to help them integrate into the industry more easily.
- Approach the industry’s available resources and the networks designed to integrate women into construction – for example:
- The status of women network in your union
- Networking initiatives in your school while you’re studying for a career in construction, including the Hats Off to You! contest
- Networking initiatives on social media and/or in your region, especially employability groups and organizations supporting women’s inclusion
- Take advantage of the upgrading activities offered through Fonds de formation pour les salariés de l’industrie de la construction (FFSIC) to:
- Enhance and upgrade your trade skills
- Broaden your network (classmates and trainers)
- Take the course Sensibilisation à l'intégration des femmes au sein d'une équipe de travail to learn good practices
Recognition
Hats Off to You! contest
The Hats Off to You! contest highlights the aspirations and work of women registered in a vocational or technical training program that leads to practising a traditionally male trade. They are invited to highlight their motivations and future projects.

Certifié mixité note of distinction
In 2017, two employer associations, the Association de la construction du Québec (ACQ) and the Corporation des maîtres électriciens du Québec (CMEQ), joined together to create the Certifié mixité note of distinction, awarded each year to companies that hire women and promote gender diversity on job sites.
The associations set the criteria for companies to receive the distinction and thus to be recognized for their commitment to gender diversity and inclusion.
