Painter Examination - Applicable from August 6

The examination is 3 hours long. It contains 61 questions and each question is worth 1 point. The required passing grade is 60%. The materials for your use during the examination are provided to you. They are: a pencil, a paper sheet, a calculator and an eraser. No other material or reference document is allowed during the examination.

Section 1 - Organizing Work (25%)

  • Securing the work site
    • Working in a safe environment
  • Preparing the work to be done
    • Preparing material and protecting nearby finished surfaces
  • Using products and equipment
    • Using products
    • Using spray guns and other application equipment

Section 2 - Preparing Surfaces (40%)

  • Preparing different types of surfaces
    • Preparing gypsum board surfaces and joint treatment
    • Preparing limestone surfaces (cement blocks and concrete)
    • Preparing metal surfaces
    • Preparing wood surfaces
    • Preparing synthetic surfaces

Section 3 - Finishing Surfaces (35%)

  • Finishing different types of surfaces
    • Finishing gypsum board and plaster surfaces
    • Finishing limestone surfaces (cement blocks and concrete)
    • Finishing metal surfaces
    • Finishing wood surfaces
  • Perform specialized work
    • Installing wallpaper and vinyl siding
    • Producing special finishes (granular compounds, faux finishes, natural-looking imitations, gold and silver leaf, reproduction of letters, numbers and shapes)

The CCQ offers upgrading activities related to your trade or specialty; these activities allow you to review certain theoretical notions, review the skills of the trade, and thus prepare better for the exam.

The suggested documents are an important tool to help you prepare for the examination. However, your best asset to write the exam successfully are the quality and diversity of the skills you have acquired during your apprenticeship.
