Resilient Flooring Layer Exam - Applicable from January 16

The exam lasts three hours. The exam consists of 60 questions, each worth 1 point. The pass level is 60%. The materials provided for the exam include a pencil, a calculator, a blank sheet of paper, an eraser, and a plan book. No other material or reference documents are permitted during the examination.

Skill content on which questions may be based

Section 1 - Preparing the site and surfaces (20 %)

  • Apply health and safety rules specific to the industry
    • Manage site accessibility and protect the work environment from possible harmful effects of the work.
    • Wear proper PPE (personal protective equipment) and handle products in a safe manner 
  • Familiarize yourself with site specifications
    • Check sites and materials (condition and quantity) 
    • Familiarize yourself with the plans
  • Prepare the surface
    • Remove existing flooring
    • Clean the surface
    • Check the surface
    • Correct defects in the floor and wall surfaces (patching) *

Section 2 – Installing and repairing carpet (glued in rolls, glued in tiles, and fitted) and artificial turf  (35 %)

  • Installing carpet glued in rolls and tiles 
    • Lay the carpet
    • Apply the glue 
    • Perform finishing
    • Installing glued carpet in rolls and tiles on a staircase
  • Installing fitted carpet
    • Install the smooth edge strips 
    • Install the underlay
    • Lay the fitted carpet
    • Perform finishing
  • Repairing glued carpet and fitted carpet that has already been installed
    • Analyze the cause of the defect and perform repairs
  • Installing artificial turf
    • Prepare the surfaces
    • Lay the covering
    • Install the inserts (lines, numbers and logos) 
    • Perform filling and finishing
  • Repairing artificial turf that has already been installed
    • Analyze the cause of the defect and perform repairs

Section 3 - Installing and repairing resilient roll and tile flooring other than Carpets (45 %)

  • Installing roll and tile resilient flooring
    • Determine the starting point
    • Prepare the flashing
    • Install the inserts 
    • Prepare and lay the covering
    • Glue down the covering
    • Perform finishing
  • Repairing resilient flooring that has already been installed
    • Analyze the cause of the defect and perform repairs
