Security systems installer - Applicable from January 16

The examination is 3 hours long. It consists of 61 questions and each question is worth 1 point. The required passing grade is 60%. The materials supplied for your use during the examination are: a pencil, a paper sheet, a calculator, a ruler and an eraser. No other material or reference document is allowed during the examination.

Skill content on which questions may be based

Section 1 - Evaluating and planning the work (20%)

  • Understanding the needs and recommendations
    • Meeting with the client, reading the specifications, validating and modifying the specifications as needed
    • Analyzing the client’s plans or creating a plan with the client
    • Choosing the appropriate equipment for the work to be performed
    • Knowing and choosing specialized equipment
  • Planning
    • Planning installation of cabling and components
    • Examining the site (physical planning of the installation)
  • Coordinating with other trades and service suppliers

Section 2 - Installing and modifying a security system (50%) Entretien et réparation (30 %)

  • Installing or modifying the security system
    • Installing the cabling
    • Installing all the components
    • Supplying the system with power
    • Programming/configuring the system
    • Testing and complete verification
    • Training the clients on using the system

Section 3 – Performing maintenance and servicing (30%)

  • Maintenance
    • Preparing verification with the receiving centre or the authorities
    • Checking the batteries
    • Cleaning the components
    • Replacing broken parts
    • Verifying the installation 
    • Performing system tests with the receiving centre and the annual inspection
    • Updating software, licences, and firmware
    • Putting the system back online
  • Servicing
    • Performing a diagnosis
    • Resolving the problems
