Toward a more inclusive industry: voluntary identification under the Act to modernize the construction industry

On May 23, 2024, the Assemblée nationale adopted the Act to modernize the construction industry. This law includes a series of measures aimed at reforming the industry, a number of which encourage greater diversity on Québec’s construction sites.

Voluntary identification of the industry’s workers

Starting on September 3, 2024, the industry’s workers may identify themselves, if applicable, as Indigenous people, members of a visible or ethnic minority, immigrants, and/or people with a disability.

This is a voluntary identification for workers. However, only people who inform the Commission de la construction du Québec that they belong to one of the groups covered will be able to benefit from the measures dedicated to them in this law, as well as all other measures implemented in other programs and action plans.

On this subject, please note that the enhancement of a measure for women, as well as new measures dedicated to First Nations people and Inuit and people representative of the diversity of Québec society, will come into force on November 30, 2024. Other measures will be introduced at a later date to be determined.
